About Us

Midland Scientific is a woman-owned, full-line provider of laboratory supplies such as chemicals, reagents, solutions, glassware, plasticware, biological media, instrumentation, measurement equipment, general laboratory supplies and laboratory consumables. Midland Scientific serves the industrial, educational, and research markets focusing its sales force in the Midwestern region of Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Dakotas, Illinois, Wisconsin, Kansas and Missouri. Midland Scientific supplies a very diverse line of products with over 20,000 Stock Keeping Units ( SKUs). The company has warehouses in Omaha, Nebraska and Davenport, Iowa.

Our History

Midland Scientific was founded on April 1, 1975 by John Gondring in Omaha, NE. The company’s objective was to meet the needs of industrial and commercial laboratories in the upper Midwest. John had previously worked in the Marketing Department of Mallinckrodt Chemical Works in St Louis. MO. A year later, John was joined by his wife Maggie, bringing with her ten years of experience at Monsanto in St Louis, MO. A warehouse and office were opened in Davenport, IA in 1977. In 2004 ownership of Midland Scientific was transferred to Maggie Gondring.

Midland Scientific originally sold only Mallinckrodt Laboratory chemicals. Over the years, many additional suppliers were added to the company’s offerings. Today, Midland Scientific has grown into a full line distributor of laboratory equipment, supplies and chemicals, representing over 200 manufacturers. In addition to chemicals, other major product lines include: glassware, plasticware, filtration, ph equipment, thermometers and hydrometers, microbiological products, containers, gloves, protective apparel and much more. The current catalog contains well over 20,000 items on over 1000 pages.

Midland Scientific has showed continued expansion over the years in a highly competitive environment. Midland Scientific has achieved this uninterrupted growth by offering quality merchandise, great product variety, same day shipment, helpful and friendly sales and marketing departments, extensive inventories and competitive prices. Midland Scientific has a wide range of customers; however the typical customer is in the industrial, agricultural or food industries which are common in the Midwest.
