| Capitol Scientific, Inc. was originally formed and incorporated in Austin, Texas in November 1963 as Chem Products, Inc. At that time the founding principals were Lee A. Williams and Mack Johnson. The purpose being to manufacture n-Methyl-Piperazine; a product used in the manufacture of the original anti-histamines in the pharmaceutical market. Chem Products had an excellent product but was unable to produce in sufficient quantities to make a profit, and sold the rights to their manufacturing process.
In the meantime, Lee Williams sold chemicals and high-purity reagents in the Central and South Texas markets to make ends meet. Within a few years of incorporation, J.T. Baker, Inc. recognized Chem Product’s potential as a emerging distributor and offered Chem Products a distributorship. J.T. Baker and Chem Products foresaw that the city of Austin in partnership with the University of Texas was an emerging market for research and high-tech industrial development. With the advent of that initial distributorship, Lee Williams began to add other laboratory product lines along with chemicals.
In 1967, Lee Williams bought out Mack Johnson and started to write letters to other major manufacturers within the industry. This resulted in the successful acquisition of prominent laboratory product lines which included Eppendorf®, Corning®, Nalgene®, Whatman®, Wheaton® and Barnstead/Thermolyne®.
To better identify the business and its products, in 1972, Lee Williams changed the name of the company to Capitol Scientific, Inc. as it is still known today. In that same year, Capitol Scientific, Inc. joined the Allied Laboratory Dealer Network (ALADN®) which is comprised of several independent laboratory supply dealers across the United States which act as a co-operative organization. The ALADN® Group’s corporate function is to allow members to buy and sell to one another at cost and to produce a catalog in a collaborative effort. Capitol Scientific remains a member of the ALADN® Group to this day.
In 1993, Lee Williams offered a sales position to Felix Ware to cover the Austin/Central Texas Market. Felix Ware had come to the company with experience in industrial chemical sales and marketing. Within a seven-year period, he was successful in expanding they company’s revenues financially and geographically, by expanding in to the Semiconductor and Biotech markets. In 1998, Lee Williams retired and promoted Mr. Ware to CEO while retaining title and ownership of the company. To this point the company had acquired and maintained several hundred laboratory and chemical distributorships.
In August 2000, Felix Ware and his wife Caris Palmer purchased the company from Lee Williams. The Wares continue to operate the company and serve the U.S. laboratory market and beyond. Significant expansion in to other states and foreign countries continues daily. Mr. Ware also has served as the ALADN Group’s President from August 1998 to June 2005. Capitol Scientific has remained a family-owned entity since its inception, and continues its expansion to serve customers nation-wide and abroad.
Capitol Scientific has made and enjoyed a rich history and continues to have broad recognition as a comprehensive supplier to the Pharmaceutical, Biotech, R&D, Semiconductor and Industrial manufacturing industries along with Educational Institutions and Government Agencies.

Denver Instrument, founded at the height of the legendary Colorado gold rush of 1880, is one of the oldest, continuous manufacturers of analytical balances in the world. English immigrant and watchmaker, William Ainsworth, recognized the opportunity for a U.S. manufacturer and entered the market with innovative analytical balance designs. Around 1895, Ainsworth introduced the company's first short-beam analytical which significantly reduced weighing time and improved reliability. The short-beam design was also one of the first commercial uses for aluminum.
In 1975, the company was reorganized as Denver Instrument and new products were developed to meet the needs of the dynamic scientific research industry. Today, our product lines include:
| • Analytical Balances |
• Precision Toploading Balances |
• Industrial Floor Scales |
| • pH, Ion & Conductivity Meters |
• Moisture Analyzers |
• Automatic Titrators |
| • Calibration Masses |
• Weight Recertification Services |
• Balance Repair |
| • Balance Accessories |
• Electrodes |
• pH Buffers |
Just as the company began its 2nd century in business, its American traditions of quality and value were melded with precision German technology when Denver Instrument was acquired by the Sartorius Group, in 1999. For the scientific research community, this means high-quality, precision laboratory instruments, that are eminently reliable and affordable!
